Overall if you’re an Atari fan then it may be worth giving it a try but other than that its aged a bit too much, I do have to admit though it would probably make a great minigame in Spyro if they replaced Bentley with Moneybags (and obviously used better graphics). Whether a game like this has an ending or not doesn’t matter when you’re not an expert at it. It didn’t make it that much harder though since you can jump over most of them enemies and the tree things seemed to get temporarily stunned when you do, there was also a wizard hat that gave you very short invincibility although it still got crazily difficult at some point either way. Secondly for some reason you could only move levels through elevator looking things even if you were higher up or it looked jumpable. Crystal Castles has nine levels with four castles each, and a tenth level which features a single castle the clearing of which ends the game. Each of the 37 trimetric-projected castles consists of a maze of hallways filled with gems and bonus objects and also includes stairs, elevators and tunnels that the player can use as shortcuts. I managed to get quite far and after a while I noticed some odd things.įirst of all each gem seemed to be worth more than the last one slowly increasing in value so a stolen one is a huge chip off your potential score. Them being smily faces that can go through walls, tree monsters (whatever they’re called) that chase you, witches that follow a set path and even an enemy that picks up gem themselves. However as you might have guessed the gems weren’t so easy to collect without even factoring in the strange enemies. Getting into the game it kind of took a second to realise what the gems were meant to be although the bear, seemingly a teddy, was quite easy to control especially since it was just move and jump. Perfect score, lol joking it’s only the first level.

I have to admit I was quite curious of what an ending to an old game like this would be like and I don’t really care about high scores but there’s no way I’d ever start at a later level. Its general spirit seems to be centered around an era before gaming started taking itself far too seriously, which is why you could more easily find games.

Like most super old games there isn’t much to talk about at the title, other than the logo there’s nothing there other than a level select and what was going to be the high score. Lemon - Commodore 64, C64 Games, Reviews & Music Download retro Commodore 64 games now Its hard to get angry at this game, mostly because Crystal Castles is just so wonderfully goofy. The game is notable for being one of the first arcade action games with an ending. The player controls Bentley Bear collecting gems in trimetric ‘castles’ while avoiding the enemies.

It isn't horrible So I chose to leave it alone for a few more years of wear, before I replace it with an NOS one.Crystal Castles is a 1983 maze game for the Atari 2600 develope and published by Atari. I cleaned off the control panel overlay and stared at it for a bit…. The new trackball came complete with a wiring harness but some simple wire swapping was needed to make the Barney Bear move the way the ball is rolled. Nether the rollers nor the ball cleaned up well, so that too went in the trash for replacement with a brand new unit. I did music and half the field research (we had to play the game to the end in the arcade, and photograph every screen) It is very flattering to hear the stories about who we are (Jim and Jon). The track ball was spotted with dirt so I took it all apart to clean the rust off the rollers and clean the ball. The coin door was a mess as usual, but I spend some time refurbishing coin doors some months ago and have 7 or so ready to drop in. I tossed the monitor in the trash and bought a brand new WG 7400 from Happs the next day. And what did I end up with? An monitor with an adjustable width, no blue, and really bad Double Dragon burn in. Ten solder connections later the old part was out and the new part was in. Happs sells a limited amount or repair parts for WG monitors, but they do sell width coils which I ordered and received within a week.
